SUPERB EXAMPLE!!!

Memory Offended. In 1984 there was uproar over a Carmelite convent in the abandoned building on the edge of Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp. Millions of Jews were murdered and cremated there, among them St. Maximilian Kolbe - who exchanged his life for a Jew- and St. Edith Stein a Carmelite nun, a convert from Judaism.  It became an issue of extreme insensitivity to the Jews. Pope John Paul II stepped in and the nuns were relocated. In 1998 Polish nationalists planted 152 crosses in memory of Polish Catholic Resistance fighters saying: "This is our country. You have yours we have ours. If we want to put Catholic crosses in our country we'll put". For the sake of peace by 2005 all the crosses, but one were gone.
First Amendment to the US Constitution. In 1787 the US Constitution was ratified and signed without a provision for essential freedoms. In 1791 10 amendments were made to the Constitution which are known as Bill of Rights. The first amendment prohibits the making of any law : "respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, infringing on freedom of speech, etc., etc.. ". Essentially it prohibits the establishment of national religion by Congress or by a state government. Thus United States of America is fundamentally a secular country with full freedom of religion.
Battle of two mosques .The Pastor of Assumption Church on Staten Island entered into a contract to sell a vacant Convent to MAS ( Muslim American Society) pending the approval of the board members. A big battle ensued. Protests after protests derailed the contract with the final no by the board members. Any mention of Muslims rouses passions and emotions run high.
Sensitivity Issue. One cannot ignore the fact of the well thought of and deliberated largest attack in American history was perpetrated by terrorists, all of them followers of Islam. On that darkest day for America millions of followers of Islam all over the world, including USA, were dancing and singing for joy over vile and most despicable deed where also many Muslims perished.
When ?When? When? This is my favorite quotation from the American National Anthem:  "the land of the free and the home of the brave"; and another quotation from America the Beautiful, patriotic song: "America! America! God shed his grace hon thee and crowned thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea “. What a great country that sings the freedom and brotherhood! When will our mother India allow the Christians to freely practice their religion as assured by the Constitution? What harm have they done to India?
Why are churches burnt down, why are priests and nuns killed? Why do they have to hide in the woods in order not to be slaughtered? Why do they have to reconvert? What harm have they done by choosing a religion they wish to practice freely? Why don't millions of students educated by Christian institutions speak out loud against these atrocities? The Christians are not the brothers and sisters of the rest of Indians? It's despicable, shameful to criminalize a religion and brutally kill innocent people.
When will Salman Rushdie  freely walk on the streets without the fear of being killed? When will Talsima Nasrin return to Bangladesh? Why Ayaan Hirsi Ali has to live underground? When will the Christians be worthy just to see Mecca and Medina? When will a church or synagogue be built in Saudi Arabia and other predominantly Muslim countries that deny freedom of religion and strenuously fight for it in other countries? Isn't that the highest form of bigotry? When will Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf be an intermediary between Saudi Arabia and the Christians' causes? When will all the Muslims respect the people of the book (Christians and Jews)? When will they not trample underfoot the Bible, the crucifix and other religious symbols and discard them in the trash receptacle? My call to all the nations is freedom and brotherhood. Emulate American the bastion of freedom. "What a superb example!!!"

Lack of sense towards Privacy

I entered the clinic for my monthly check-up. The crowd didn't surprise me. It was a Saturday.  I could guess that most of them were workaholics who had finally found time to see the doctor. As I made my way to the only leftover seat in the tiny room, I realized that I was looking forward to at least two hours of patient and solemn sitting amongst two elderly people whose eyes seemed to glisten looking at me, and why not? I was sure I was going to be their next victim for a quick chat to pass time. And again, my guess wasn't wrong. A few moments of my sitting were enough to drain the scarce trace of patience left in the lady sitting on my right side.
'I guess we will have to wait for an hour at least, huh?' she asked.
I smiled, nodded and was about to proceed with my text messaging when one more impatient question popped my way.
'How can you type messages so fast?'
'Practice and addiction, I fancy?' I replied.
But she wasn't satisfied. I guess I had to know it too. What followed were a series of random questions which were expected from a stranger to another under circumstances where passing of time seemed to be an expensive commodity. To use slang language, I was 'ok' with the proceedings so far. Finally, I had to understand how bored she might have been, right? I did speak to her for a few moments, but then I wasn't the type of a person to open up quickly to strangers or was comfortable speaking to them even if it meant they belonged to the fairer sex.
Suddenly my phone beeped to indicate a new text message from my friend. As I began replying to the text, I realized how I had longed to speak to a friend at that moment. Just when I pressed the send button and leaned back in the seat, I felt one more head apart from mine staring at my mobile screen. I turned my head to the same women looking at the screen with an exasperated expression on her face. It was clear that she had read my friend's SMS as well as my own reply to it.
I gave her a look to make her understand that even though she was an adult and I was expected to respect her, she was a stranger stomping my privacy and that was unpardonable under any circumstance. My looks weren't enough to make her understand because, as I started getting more messages, she started reading them in progression with an amused expression on her face.
This incident reminded me of a principal confiscating my friend's cell phone as they were not allowed in the campus.  The principal had gone through my friend's text messages and had come across some personal chat messages between my friend and his girlfriend. What was disputable was how the principal had mishandled the privacy of my friend. Though indeed he had the right to confiscate the phone, there is no right whatsoever which permitted him to intrude his private space or check into the private messages.
Some adults fail to understand, though it is justifiable to be keen into the affairs of others. One should be interested more into his own affairs than indulging into those of others. We are more interested in discussing the affairs of our neighbour's daughters when we are blank about what happens with our own daughters... Privacy is a sensitive issue and one should respect it.
